One of the transport industry’s leading figures is set to increase his involvement with the organisation he originally set up almost 15 years ago, following a buy-out which sees him taking sole charge at Palletline’s Birmingham operational depot, Palletline Distribution Ltd.
Bob Russett, Chairman of the Palletline network from 1993 to 2005, has bought Palletline Distribution outright from his fellow shareholders in a move which gives him the opportunity to significantly expand the potential for this successful transport-based business.
Bob has owned 25% of Palletline Distribution since 1994, when he and joint Palletline Plc co-founders Ken Hackling, Colin Sturgess and John Watt set up the company as an independent business to act as the Palletline member company for the Birmingham area, operating autonomously from Palletline plc.
More recently, the retirement of John Watt and Colin Sturgess, coupled with Ken Hackling’s decision to focus on his own core business at Hacklings Transport in Bourton-on-the-Water, opened up an opportunity for Bob to take Palletline Distribution forward and expand the company’s sphere of operations.
Alongside the acquisition of Palletline Distribution, Bob has also bought the warehousing and storage side of Telford-based Transtore Ltd.
“Palletline Distribution has always been an excellent, solid business,” states Bob. “My plan is to invest to grow the business beyond its current palletised distribution and full/part load focus, with the addition of warehousing and storage capabilities and also the possibility of other, complementary activities I am now evaluating in detail.”
Bob will be a hands-on managing director of the new, expanded Palletline Distribution. The business will be managed on a day-to-day basis by general manager John Soltys, who worked for Palletline Distribution for some years before leaving to run Transtore in 2004.
